RESTORING OUR CHESAPEAKE
Environmental Concern is celebrating 38 years - constructing and restoring, growing plants, and educating - all about wetlands.
In 2009 with your support:
-
approximately 6 acres of tidal wetland were restored to protect vulnerable shoreline on tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay;
-
more than 1 million native plants were propagated and planted on private or public lands near you;
-
19 schoolyard habitats were constructed at local Elementary and High Schools
-
over 9,500 teachers, students, and professionals learned about the importance of wetlands to the health of the nations largest estuary, our Chesapeake Bay;
-
500 oyster cages with millions of oyster spat were placed on piers in San Domingo Creek and La Trappe Creek in Talbot County. EC is a partner with Talbot County in the Marylanders Grow Oysters Program.
WE NEED YOU IN 2010
Between 1986 and 1997, the estimated net loss of wetlands was 644,000 acres in the United States (58,500 acres lost per year). In Talbot County, Maryland alone over 50% of the wetlands have been lost. |
