Rosa palustris – Swamp rose
Characteristics: native rose with pink flowers
Flowers: June – August
Fruit: orange-red berry-like hips
Growth: 2 to 7 feet tall
Shade: full sun to part shade
Habitat: Found in tidal fresh and nontidal marshes, forested wetlands, shrub swamps, and streambanks
Hydrology: obligate wetland, fresh water, salinity < 0.5 ppt, regular inundation up to 3 inches
Range: throughout much of the Mid-Atlantic region and eastern U.S.
Comments: high wildlife value, food for many species of songbirds, attractive fall color
