Habitat: Forested
wetlands, shrub bogs, edges of streams, freshwater swamps and woods.
Hydrology: Obligate
wetland. Rarely found in tidal areas and only those that are infrequently
subject to tidal flow. Tolerates irregular to permanent inundation.
Range: Central
Maine, south to northern Florida and Mississippi.
Comments: Prefers
fluctuating water table and little competition. Provides cover or shelter
for wildlife. Species is rare in Georgia and New York, of special concern
in Maine and extirpated in Pennsylvania.
