Mimulus ringens – Square-stemmed monkey flower
Characteristics: herbaceous perennial with light blue-violet flowers throughout the season, stem is square in cross-section.
Flowers: June - September
Fruit: capsule with seeds in fall
Growth: up to 4 feet tall, slow rate of spread
Shade: full sun to partial shade
Habitat: wet woods, swamps, open marshy places
Hydrology: obligate wetland, fresh water, salinity less than 0.5 ppt, seasonal to regular inundation.
Range: Quebec, Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan, south to Oklahoma, Georgia, Louisiana
Comments: no significant insect or disease problems are reported
