Characteristics: Herbaceous, perennial, persistent; large leaved.

Flower: Large cream, pink or red flowers July-September.

Fruit: Brown Capsule September-March

Growth: Rate of spread slow. Height: 4-7’.

Shade: Full sun – partial shade.

Habitat: Fresh to brackish tidal marshes occasionally non-tidal marshes.

Hydrology: Classified as an obligate wetland (OBL) plan; near MHW or regular inundation 0 -3”.

Range: Native to Maryland; Massachusetts to Florida and Alabama, inland from western New York and southern Ontario to northern Illinois and Indiana.

Comments: Vigorous plant that tolerates dry periods. Ruby-throated hummingbird is attracted to nectar.
