Flowers: July – October
Fruit: capsule with seeds in late summer
Growth: 2 to 6 feet tall, clump-forming
Shade: full sun to partial shade
Habitat: wet thickets and meadows
Hydrology: obligate wetland, fresh water, salinity less than 0.5 ppt, irregular to seasonal inundation
Range: Iowa, Illinois, Ohio, New York, Southern Maine, and south
Comments: flowers are attractive to butterflies, song birds, and beneficial insects
